People are still reading online, but more and more, they are watching. A recent Cisco forecast projects that a mind-blowing 82% of consumer web traffic will be video views by 2020. If that holds true, by the end of the decade, there will be 1 million minutes of video content passing through our global data networks each second.
Furthermore, lists of marketing trends from major publications consistently point to video as a major area for growth. One roundup of statistics noted that they amplify purchase intent by 97% and prompt 50% of executives to conduct further research into the offering.
Given these numbers, it’s no wonder companies have become concerned that they learn how to harness video to communicate their brand identity and make sales. However, it can be tricky to figure out how to move forward. Here is advice from Chris Trimble in The Guardian:
- Think carefully about your audience. You want to make sure your video is relevant to them – since that will determine if they keep watching.
- Be aggressive in distributing to social media, and make sure it is mobile-friendly across all platforms.
- “[B]e creative,” advises Trimble, “not only with the videos themselves but in the campaign strategy you build around them.”
